What is paint protection film (PPF)?

Paint protection film, often called PPF, is applied to painted surfaces where wear is greatest. The film is typically made from durable polyurethane and is significantly thicker than standard window tint. Its purpose isn't to change the car's appearance, but to protect the paint.

With higher-quality films, minor wash swirls and marks in the top layer can heal themselves with heat. How well this self-healing works depends on the material quality, film thickness, and how the car is used and washed.

Where does PPF help the most?

The front takes the most abuse. The leading edge of the hood, bumper, mirrors, front fenders, and rocker panels usually take the most punishment from the road. On cars with wide tires, low ground clearance, or a sportier front end, the areas behind the wheels are especially vulnerable too.

You don't always need to protect the whole car. Focused protection on the most exposed zones often gives the best value for money. A full wrap, on the other hand, can be the right choice for a new, high-end car, or if you want to keep the paint in the best possible condition ahead of a future resale.

Before installation

The paint must be clean, degreased, and free of existing damage. Film doesn't hide chips, scratches, or rust — it seals the surface underneath instead. So it's wise to fix any damage before installation.

PPF is a practical protection for anyone who drives a lot, wants to reduce wear on the front end, or wants to preserve the car's paint value for longer.
